5 out of 5 stars The Handheld Race Is On   December 9, 2005

There is just so much talk about video game systems these days. Especially since consumers are just craving the recently released Xbox 360 system from Microsoft. Argubly, there are always substitutes for anybody who has the urge for a game system, especially for when it absolutely comes to other systems. I had that craving for the Xbox 360, and instead I went back to Nintendo. After several times experimenting with different systems, I adored the DS system, and decided to stick with the handhelds. I was definitely right, and now that urge still stands with Nintendo's latest DS bundle pack.

The Nintendo DS Mario Kart bundle, is a great combination for anybody who loves the need for Nintendo's speed. The DS system is displayed in a bright red limited edition in this package, and comes with a wirst strap, AC adapter, and other accessories. I was really surprised about how simple it was to operate, without any batteries. All it takes is one quick charge on the Ac adapter, and you have wireless fun in a flash.

The game is also a great find too, Mario Kart DS. This game is absolutely great for die hard Mario Kart fanatics. In this edition, you can race your favorite characters from Mario, Yoshi, Bowser to name a few through over 30 outrageous tracks and challenges. The highlights are mainly around 2 seperate grand prixs:the nitro edition with 16 all new, clever tracks like the snow summitted DK Pass, to the even more wild and wicked Rainbow Road, and the retro edition that showcases several classsic tracks from Mario Karts past including Mario Kart 64, and the original Super Mario Kart from the Super NES system. The graphics are really superb, and definitely bring out even more with the 3-D highlights. The control is a little complex at first, but it is very easy to operate after a quick game. Arguably, for so many who've plaed the analog stick for the Gamecube and N64 editions. There are also so many great unlockables including characters like Waluigi, Dry Bones who just made a comeback in Mario Superstar Baseball earlier this year, and Daisy too.

All in all, the Nintendo DS Mario Kart Bundle is a absolutely great buy for anybody who has the need to get a video game system this year. While all the hype is on the Xbox 360 this time, this makes a great substitute for any parent. I really suggest this as a must have for anybody.

5 out of 5 stars A very stylish DS and top rated Game   December 5, 2005

This review is only about the Nintendo DS handheld and what it comes with. You can easily go search somewhere else for a review of Mario Kart DS (Which btw, is an excellent game. I think it's the best Mario Kart ever and not because of online play either.).

So the DS is not a shiney flaming red like the flameing red SP is. The plastic seems to be red itself and not painted red. This is a rather big deal becasue if you are rough with you systems you won't have scratched off paint (my old SP looked bad!). Unlike the red DS in Japan the back of the unit looks to be painted silver. So the two systems aren't exactly the same. This color combination looks great especially since the theme of the bundle is Mario Kart.

Besides getting the game which comes in a cardboard sleeve that holds the manual and game (the same way the metroid prime hunters demo was packaged with the nintendo ds at launch) there are a couple of neat extras. One is the sticker sheet which has numbers, flames, road signs, flaming tail pipes, and other racing related stuff. They are easy to peel off and have clear borders and not white like cheap stickers. However the sticker doesn't blend in as well as stickers made for model kits would. It's a neat extra none the less that kids will dig (I put the M Racing sticker on the top of mine).

The other neat extra is the wrist strap. This is NOT the same as the regualr NDS wrist strap as it is much wider and does not have a thumb attachment. Worry not! The original wrist and thumb strap are included but I don't suggest having both of them on at once. Gets messy. Also on the bonus wrist strap there is a detachable color key chain of Mario in his kart. Very nice touch.

You also get an extra stylus.

This is the best Nintendo DS bundle ever. The extras really make it stand a part over other bundles. And honestly, even if the extras weren't there, the stellar color combination and game make it a worthwhile purchase for new DS buyers. Oh and you save $15 instead of buying each item separtely.

See you online racers!

5 out of 5 stars The most beautiful DS to date!   December 1, 2005

There's something about red that just seems ... different. After years of grey and black and white systems, something bright and pretty like this just blows my mind. The red is eye-catching and is perfect for Nintendo (home of Mario and a traditionally red logo).

Admittedly, though, this is a rare one. I went into my local Gamestop, and there were only two left and they just released. The guy at the counter said they wouldn't get any more, either. He had one, and I saw it, and it just made me want it more.

I already had a DS, but it sadly went dead (due mainly to spilling coke all over it, and even then it lasted a month or two more) and this is a wonderful replacement. The red is wonderful, and the backing is silver (where normal DSs are black). It also comes with racing decals (gimmicky, but kind of fun) and a special strap with a checkered flag pattern. I don't know how many people use those straps, but it'd look nice if you did ...

It also comes with Mario Kart, of course, one of the greatest games on DS yet. You can't go wrong with this. You have 15 bucks, get a wonderful system and an awesome game, and you look snazzy while doing so. Get em while they're still available!

(also, as an aside, original pictures of the revolution hint that red will be an available color. I hope so, because then everything will look awesome. remember, your DS will be able to connect to revolution, according to nintendo, as of this review. next year should rock!)

5 out of 5 stars A Gorgeous Red & Silver Combo   December 6, 2005

None of the online images show how beautiful this system is!

Even the inks used for the box images fail to due it justice. This is truly a "hot rod" red! It's a blue-shade red, which gives it a deep solid look. The wrist strap is a nice braided black that is twice as wide and thick as the standard issue. It has an good looking elastomeric white ink for the checkered pattern and name along with a very nice (Mario in his cart) key charm. The hard metalic silver coating should take a lot of abuse; if you keep it away from sharp objects.

This is by far the best-looking DS system (haven't seen the black) out there.

Lots of reviews on the game itself. I bought this version to play against my daughter (she already had MarioKart). And while only one of the players needs the game to race most of the tracks (20 vs. 32) you need to be in wireless range. If you don't have the game you save about $15 with the bundle.

5 out of 5 stars Great System With Great Game   December 1, 2005

The nintedo DS is an awesome system. Now, you can even play online wirelessly for free. It's great. You have two screens, one of them is a touch-screen, and great games. Mario Kart has awesome 3d graphics and has gotten excellent reviews from fans and critics alike stating that it is the best Mario Kart game yet, and i fully agree. I loved the gamecube and N64 versions but this one is even better. It's got around 32 courses. It also has 16 retro courses from previous games and 16 courses that are brand new. Anybody that owns a DS should own this game, and if you buy this item, then you get both of them for a great price. I highly reccomend it.
